Ignore the Celebrity Drug Rehab Stigma

Celebrities seem to always get themselves into trouble. In particular, young celebrities, in their early 20s, seem to get into trouble with drugs and alcohol. These role models to our kids eventually find themselves on probation or in jail for drug related arrests. The courts eventually force them, in one way or another, to seek help through drug rehab clinics, or alcohol sobering facilities. What this does is create a stigma to the idea of getting help at a facility. The fact is that these clinics are not necessarily something anyone should dread, especially since they are there to help people get their lives back. The problem is most young adults cannot accept they have a problem to begin with so why attend these places to begin with. Once they get passed that, they seek help.

The fact is drug rehab clinics save lives and although they may not see the effects immediately, patients come to realize that over time, this was the only choice they had to break the bonds of their addictions. It used to be that the only solution was abstinence from alcohol and drugs, or going cold turkey. Nowadays doctors and physicians know better. The withdrawal symptoms can be extremely violent, and even deadly in some cases. Withdrawal can be the most agonizing pain one can endure and that drives people far away from any notion of breaking their addiction.

Celebrity Apprentice Sales Lessons

Of all the reality shows on TV, the one that actually has some value other than mindless entertainment is Celebrity Apprentice. I made a point to watch the premier last night, and saw a couple of very important sales lessons in action.

The teams of celebrities were divided, men versus women. Their task was to see who could raise more money for charity by taking over a diner for an afternoon and sell food. The men's team raised twice as much money as the women, despite the women having a better location in Manhattan. There are two reasons why:

1. Selling at a higher price. The men set prices for hamburgers at $100--plus more if you wanted truffles. The women set their price at $10 for a hamburger. Cyndi Lauper, the women's team leader said that the common person couldn't pay a lot for a hamburger. Trump pointed out in the Boardroom that the common person was not the market she should have been going after.

Sales point: the sales reps in companies who consistently have the largest average order size are the ones selling the higher priced and higher margin items, and selling at full price. No revelation there, right? They go after the bigger orders. What are you gong after?

2. Prospect targeting and calling. The men's team contacted more heavy hitters--big donors--than the women's team. Led by former baseball player Darryl Strawberry who has many New York contacts, the men were able to bring in the big dogs who not only could donate the $100 for hamburgers, but also left $1000-$2000 tips for charity. The men's tips also were much more than the women's.

Also, as a result of targeting the mass market, the women had a long line of potential customers still waiting as time expired on the contest--some of whom were potential larger donors. Yet, they were so busy with the small customers they did not have time to sell to the bigger, more profitable ones. Sound familiar?

Sales point: Where are you selling within an organization? Too many sales reps start low with middle managers who can't make an ultimate decision, or can't make a large purchase.

Gisele Bundchen Doesn't Hate Sunscreen

Her words were recently twisted and misunderstood, and now Gisele Bundchen is setting the record straight.

While promoting her skincare line Sejaa recently, the Victoria’s Secret model recently was quoted as saying, “I cannot put this poison on my skin. I do not use anything synthetic” when talking about certain products that contain SPF.

Taking that and running with it, reports quickly claimed that Bundchen said that she doesn’t wear sunscreen at all because it’s poison.

Her rep quickly attempted to clear the air by making this statement: “They misquoted her due to a language barrier. Gisele would never say not to use sunscreen because she has family members who have had skin cancer.”


The real story is that Gisele does use sunscreen – just not harsh formulations.

“When using sunscreens she selects ones that are free of parabens, oxybenzone, PABA, and retinyl palmitate,” says the rep. “She buys her sunscreen at Whole Foods, so she can find ones that are free of harsh chemicals.”

After five years of marriage, the pro skater and wife, Lhotse Merriam, filed for divorce on Friday (February 4).

The couple released a joint statement earlier today (February 7) stating, "We have made the difficult decision to file for divorce.”

"We remain deeply committed and loving parents to our daughter, and out of respect for that responsibility we ask that people honor our family's privacy during this important time of transition," the statement continues. "Thank you for your understanding."

Hawk and Merriam have one child together, Kadence Clover Hawk, who was born in June 2008.

A few weeks ago, various sources around the Internet starting buzzing on one particular subject: ‘Crystal Renn’s agency lists the ‘plus-size’ model as a size 2′. A size 2 with the corresponding measurements of a standard model! A few days after the initial buzz, Crystal Renn’s agent, Gary Dakin, responded:

“There was an error in the initial printing and it is being rectified. She maintains a 37-38 hip. But if people have truly followed her message, it is about acceptance and beauty at any size”.

Let’s see some of Crystal Renn’s recent statements:

With plus size modeling, the sizes start at an 8 and go all the way up to a 20, and that enrages many people. They say when they see a size 10 girl, that’s plus size? They have to realize that plus size model doesn’t mean plus size woman… But bridging the gap would be a very good thing. We need to have all sizes. This isn’t a them against us fight. It’s about bringing everybody together.

Because of my size currently, I straddle this line between the two worlds–I guess you could say I’m a plus size straight size model. I am four inches smaller than a plus size model and four inches bigger than a straight size model.

She’s facing grand theft charges for allegedly lifting a $2500 necklace from a Venice, California jewelry store, and now Lindsay Lohan may be arrested and paraded in front of the Los Angeles Police Station.

According to TMZ, the “Mean Girls” actress could be the subject of an arrest warrant that would give cops the option to pick her up, cuff her, and take her to central booking.

Despite the fact that  Lindsay Lohan’s charges are shoplifting-related, the LAPD may decide to have Lindsay do a ‘perp walk’ as a message to other would-be kleptomaniacs.


The charges could be filed as early as today (February 7), thereby giving Lindsay little time to figure out a publicity-avoiding strategy.

Once again failing to realize that normal people face consequences of their actions, Lindsay Lohan believes that other people are simply out to ruin her.

She will be charged with felony grand theft this week. Maybe it was, as she claims, a misunderstanding. But it doesn't just happen if people dislike you.

Lohan says she's become an easy target for people looking to hurt her, telling pals, "People just don't believe me and know I'm in a vulnerable position."

Lohan thinks the jewelry store owner accusing her of stealing a $2,500 necklace is seizing the moment by concocting a story that Lindsay Lohan stole the piece.

Lindsay Lohan insists it was loaned to her.

Despite the difficult of proving she knowingly planned to steal the piece and then executed that plan, the D.A. is likely to file charges as soon as today.

And, while she insists she's a victim, Lindsay Lohan is "very nervous" about the prospect of returning to jail, telling people that "Nothing is worth going back."


State prison could actually be where she ends up if convicted, but even if that doesn't happen, the ordeal could constitute another probation violation.

We'll have to stay tuned on that, but she is likely to face the music imminently, one way or the other. She may even be handcuffed and dragged off.

No decision has been made on whether an arrest warrant will be issued, or whether the police will arrange her surrender with Lindsay Lohan and her lawyer.

It all depends on the message they're trying to send. A public arrest of Lindsay Lohan, wherever she happens to be at that moment, would be something else.

Maynard has the potential to make it all the way, says Ashley Spivey.
